Punjab Inspector General of Police Faisal Shahkar has decided to step down and written a letter to federal government about the non-continuation of service. Faisal Shahkar, in a letter, stated that it was not possible for him to continue on his current assignments due to “personal reasons”. “It is, therefore, requested that my services be kindly withdrawn with immediate effect from government of Punjab and placed at the disposal of the federal government,” his letter stated. He sent his resignation to the Punjab Secretary of the Establishment Division and the provincial government. His resignation comes hours after the Lahore capital city police officer was removed from his post. Sources privy to the development claimed that there were differences between the Punjab government and the IG over registration of FIR of Wazirabad incident.
A day earlier, vice chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mahmood Qureshi has demanded resignation of IG Punjab if he was unable to register FIR of the incident. Earlier, Imran Khan had expressed his displeasure over delays in registering the FIR for the Wazirabad attack on him and his party leadership. He expressed dissatisfaction over the Punjab IG and a decision was taken to remove him from the post.
