Following an internal meeting among members of the Sharif family on Sunday, the top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has called an emergency meeting of the central executive committee (CEC)of the party for Monday (today).
The CEC of the party will meet at 11am in Lahore and will be chaired by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The meeting has been called to devise a strategy in the aftermath of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
During Sunday’s meeting at Jati Umra, the PML-N termed the arrest of former Punjab chief minister days before October 14 by-polls as ‘unacceptable’.
Hamza Shehbaz and Salman Shehbaz briefed Nawaz Sharif on his brother’s physical remand. Maryam Nawaz also attended the meeting in which several other political matters were also discussed.
The NAB had arrested the PML-N president in Rs14billion housing scandal on Friday. An accountability court on Saturday granted 10-day physical remand of Shehbaz to the NAB.
Sharifs meet Shehbaz at NAB office
Ousted premier Nawaz Sharif along with other members of Shahbaz’s family met the opposition leader at the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Lahore office on Sunday, two days after he was taken into custody by the bureau in the Ashiana Housing Scheme case.
Shahbaz’s wife Nusrat, and his sons Hamza and Salman were present during the meeting which reportedly lasted an hour and 15 minutes. According to reports, the meeting was arranged after the approval of NAB Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi at the bureau’s Lahore office where the PML-N president is being kept under custody.
