ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah Friday said that Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Zafar Mahmood should refrain from issuing statements over the Kalabagh Dam issue. Shah said that three provincial assemblies passed resolutions against the construction of the Kalabagah Dam. He said that a public servant should not issue statements over the matter after the passing of the resolutions. The issue of Kalabagh Dam was beyond the mandate of the WAPDA chairman, he said, adding that power crisis could be solved by constructing small dams including the Bhasha Dam.
The opposition leader said that the government was trying to divert attention from the power crisis in the country by resurrecting the Kalabagh Dam issue. Shah said that the WAPDA chairman’s statements were against the spirit of federalism.
The government shouldn’t give rise to new challenges for the federation by using WAPDA chairman,” Shah added.
