Security forces killed a wanted terrorist commander during an intelligence-based operation in Lakki Marwat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday. Police identified the slain militant as Kifayatullah, who was allegedly involved in bombings and attacks on law enforcement. The operation was carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) based on a tip-off about a hideout in Nawar Khel. During the raid, an exchange of fire took place, leaving one police constable injured.
According to the police statement, the firefight lasted for a significant period. Officers responded bravely and overpowered the suspects. Kifayatullah was shot dead on the spot. Security personnel recovered a Kalashnikov rifle and ammunition from his possession. Authorities said a clearance operation was still underway to secure the area and look for other possible threats.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bannu region, Sajjad Khan, praised the courage of the police officers involved. He said their actions showed strong commitment to protecting the country. “Our officers stand ready at all times to confront terror,” he noted. He added that the resolve of police and CTD units remains unshaken despite continued militant threats.
Lakki Marwat has seen a sharp rise in militant activity in recent months. In August, a series of terrorist attacks killed three soldiers and a woman, and wounded three others. Militants have increasingly targeted law enforcement and civilians in the region. The ongoing violence highlights the serious security challenges facing the province.
Despite efforts by local peace committees, unrest in Lakki Marwat persists. The district has been a target for militant groups since the early 2000s. Authorities continue operations to root out extremist networks and restore peace. Officials say security forces will maintain pressure on militants until the area is fully stabilized.
